Queenslanders to decide the state’s ultimate must-do

Queenslanders are encouraged to vote for their favourite must-do experience as part of an RACQ campaign celebrating the state’s 150th birthday.

The peak motoring body’s 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland, launched today by Premier Anna Bligh, is an opportunity to celebrate the state’s unique and wonderful attractions in the landmark year.

RACQ chief executive Ian Gillespie said the campaign built on the RACQ’s promotion of drive tourism in Queensland for the past 90 years.

“The RACQ 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland campaign showcases the outstanding scenery and rich character that is synonymous with the Sunshine State,” Mr Gillespie said.

“What better way to celebrate Queensland’s 150th birthday than by naming 150 experiences that help define us as a state and asking Queenslanders to name the ultimate must-do?”

The final list of 150 nominees for Queensland’s ultimate experience was compiled by RACQ and Tourism Queensland, selected from more than 600 suggestions from regional tourism organisations and local governments around the State. It represents a diverse range of locations, events and activities, with Queenslanders able to vote for their favourites.

Premier Anna Bligh said the RACQ 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland showcased the State’s breathtaking beauty and experiences and the timing was perfect.

“RACQ’s announcement comes hot on the heels of my call in October for Queenslanders to start thinking about what icons they believe define the Queensland identity. Experiences are also closely related to our identity,” the Premier said.

“Both programs complement each other and keep the dialogue going on why it’s so great to work, live or play in Queensland in the lead-up to our biggest celebration yet, Queensland’s 150th anniversary next year.

“With the RACQ 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland, the focus is on the destinational holiday or tourism experiences.

“It’s about what experiences make us want to call Queensland home and best of all, the public can also vote on which experiences make this the best part of the world to be.

“Next year is Queensland’s year.

“With some of the world’s best destinations right here in our own backyard, the RACQ 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland is a great way of encouraging Queenslanders to holiday at home.”

Mr Gillespie said Queenslanders are able to vote for their favourite must-do experience by visiting the 150mustdos.com.au website. Voting opens today and runs until January 31, with the ultimate must-do to be announced on February 28. Those who register on the website have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the campaign.

“The 150mustdos.com.au website is packed with information on the best locations, events and experiences Queensland has to offer, complete with interactive competitions, videos and voting updates on the campaign,” Mr Gillespie said.

Promoting local tourism and travel is a key focus of the campaign, in which RACQ is supported by partners Traveltrain Holidays, Tourism Queensland, the Queensland Government, Roamfree and sponsor Subaru.
