The club’s identity in its earliest years was defined by its motoring advocacy. As the club approached its centenary, protecting the interests of its members remained a priority, but there was also a focus on creating new services and products.
During this time, a range of new membership options were introduced, such as the premium RACQ Ultra service and free2go, the world’s first free youth motoring club membership.
The popular Show Your Card and Save member benefits program further increased the value of club membership, as did the RACQ loyalty rewards program, which included discounts on RACQ Insurance premiums. Today, RACQ members save $10 million annually through the Show Your Card and Save program and $33 million on their insurance premiums.
In 1995, RACQ celebrated a major milestone as membership surpassed one million, more than one quarter of Queensland’s total population.

The RACQ's presence on roads throughout the state was complemented in 2001 with the launch of the RACQ Helicopter Rescue Network. Now a cornerstone of the club’s community involvement, the four services - Gold Coast and Toowoomba-based RACQ CareFlight, RACQ CQ-Rescue in Mackay, RACQ Capricorn Rescue in Rockhampton and RACQ NQ Rescue in Mt Isa - appropriately reflect the club’s “peace of mind” objective.
This focus on community safety continued with RACQ’s sponsorship of free bus services for schoolies celebrations in major locations around the state. An extension of the free2go youth membership program, the free bus services help reduce schoolies’ temptation to drink and drive, helping provide parents with their own “peace of mind”.
