The club’s centenary sparked year-long celebrations that included a statewide travelling exhibition honouring 100 years of motoring in Queensland, a television documentary, and a hardcover historical reference entitled The Road Well Travelled.

While the milestone afforded the RACQ an opportunity to look back at 100 years of spectacular achievement, the day-to-day operations continued to push the boundaries of what a motoring club could offer its members.

The addition of an online trip planner to the club’s website was hugely successful in helping Queenslanders better plan their journeys and swiftly became RACQ’s most used internet service. In response to devastating effects of Cyclone Larry in 2006, the club commissioned a Mobile Business Centre, designed to travel to weather-affected regions of the state and ensure residents could gain quick access to member and insurance services.

The club’s advocacy and collaboration with the State Government resulted in the 2006 launch of the Learn2go program, an online education resource for learner drivers and supervisors. The program was introduced alongside a series of legislative changes to improve safety among young drivers in which RACQ played a significant advisory role.

As the club helped educate learner drivers, the Streets Ahead program aimed to develop the road awareness of primary school-aged children. Launched in 2008, the primary school road safety education program has reached more than 50,000 students and won a Queensland road safety award in its first year.
