Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance Claims

CTP Insurance ClaimsCTP Insurance protects you against compensation claims for personal injury resulting from a car accident. 

The following information can assist if you need to make a Compulsory Third Party Claim or have had a claim made against you.



What should I do if I am injured in an accident?

  • Note the name of the driver and registration of any vehicle involved, and the names of any witnesses
  • Ensure the accident is reported to the Police within 24 hours and record the Police Report Number, the Police Officer's name, the station and the date reported
  • Get a Notice of Accident Claim Form.  Forms are available from any CTP insurer or the Motor Accident Insurance Commission's website at www.maic.qld.gov.au
  • Complete the claim form and have your doctor complete the medical certificate that is part of the claim form
  • Send the completed form to the CTP insurer of the at fault vehicle.  If you do not know who the insurer is, contact the Motor Accident Insurance Commission CTP Claims Helpline on 1300 302 568
  • If the at fault vehicle is uninsured (unregistered) or cannot be identified, the claim may be made against the Nominal Defendant
  • Please note that time limits apply to the making of a claim

What should I do if I am the at fault driver and someone is hurt?

  • Note the name of the driver and registration of any vehicle involved, and the names of any witnesses
  • Ensure the accident is reported to the Police within 24 hours and record the Police Report Number, the Police Officer's name, the station and the date reported
  • Provide your insurance details to the injured parties
  • The injured party is required to complete and lodge a Notice of Accident Claim Form.  Forms are available from any CTP insurer or the Motor Accident Insurance Commission's website at www.maic.qld.gov.auTime limits apply to the making of a claim
  • Retain your motor vehicle repair documentation or claim details

At Fault Driver Injury Insurance Claims

If you are the at fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident and you are injured, please read the RACQ Insurance At Fault Driver Injury Insurance Policy.

If you believe you may be entitled to compensation benefits, you can lodge a claim.

What you will need to do:

  • Note the names and contact details of any witnesses following the accident
  • Ensure the accident is reported to the Police within 24 hours and record the Police Report Number, the Police Officer's name, the station and the date reported
  • If you are covered by the RACQ Insurance At Fault Driver Injury Insurance Policy, you can get a Notice of Accident Claim Form by calling us on 13 1905 or alternatively email ctpclaims@racqi.com.au
  • Complete the claim form and have your doctor complete the medical certificate that is part of the claim form
  • Send the completed claim form to us within 30 days of the motor vehicle accident:
