How to switch to RACQ CTP
Changing to RACQ for your Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is easy. You don't have to wait until your registration renewal is due. You can nominate to switch your CTP to RACQ Insurance at any time.
Here's how to change your CTP insurer to RACQ Insurance.
Buying a new or unregistered vehicle from a dealer
Ask the dealer to nominate RACQ Insurance as your choice of CTP insurer.
Buying an unregistered vehicle (private sale)
- You will need to arrange your CTP insurance directly with us by obtaining a CTP certificate from one of our agents or branches. This will allow you to travel to your nearest Safety Certificate Inspection station and directly on to Queensland Transport to register the vehicle. No other road use is permitted before the vehicle is registered.
- Complete an Application for Registration Form, which you can get from Queensland Transport. Keep this in your vehicle until you have your vehicle registered.
- Get a Safety Certificate for your vehicle from your nearest Safety Certificate Inspection station.
- You will need to lodge all of these documents with Queensland Transport. Then they can register your vehicle.
Buying a registered second-hand vehicle
See 'Changing your CTP insurer before your registration is due'.
Changing your CTP insurer when your registration is due
- Complete the "Compulsory Third Party Insurer Nomination" form on the reverse of your Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice. Nominate RACQ Insurance as your proposed Compulsory Third Party insurer, then sign and date the form.
- Pay your registration fee and the RACQ CTP premium to Queensland Transport or one of its agents (including Australia Post) by mail, in person or by telephone on 13 2380. This payment must be received before the due date.
Changing your CTP insurer before your registration is due
You can nominate RACQ Insurance as your CTP insurer before renewal by completing and posting to us our Compulsory Third Party Insurance Nomination Notice or by calling Queensland Transport on 13 2380. Download a nomination form or contact us on 13 1905.
If you've bought a registered second-hand vehicle, and you want to choose RACQ as your CTP insurer, you should also follow this process.
The change to your CTP insurer will only come into effect from the due date for your vehicle's registration renewal.
Alternatively, you can nominate RACQ Insurance as your CTP insurer with Queensland Transport's online service.
