Pricing Your Car

Pricing your car can be one of the most difficult parts of selling it.

You can be sure that if you get it wrong you will either be inundated with calls from people looking for a bargain or you won’t get any calls at all. As a rough guide to determining your cars value, start by finding the range of prices being asked for vehicle’s of the same make and model and in similar condition to yours. A local newspaper is a good source.

If the vehicle is advertised by a dealer you will need to subtract their profit margin (which can be anything from $1000 up) to give you a “ball park figure” to work with.

If you aren’t sure of your used car’s value, it’s probably safer to start with a higher price. In any case you should always start with a higher price than you really want to allow for some negotiation.  If you find that you don’t get any calls it’s possible that the price is too high and you need to consider reducing it.
