Lexus continues to press all the right buttons when it comes to the luxury 4WD class, the RX350 claiming the marque’s fourth consecutive title.
This year’s feat was even more impressive than those which had gone before, with additional competitors in a diverse category of prices and engine choices.
Remarkably, the Lexus increased its lead, in part due to a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 heart. Some subtle changes to security and dynamics also helped.
The smoothness of the RX is still outstanding and it continues to lead the way on value for money. It offers a lower price, a bright outlook on depreciation, competitive running costs and a four-year warranty.
And that impressive standard features list only improved with the change from RX330 to RX350.
It also outscores the field in design and function.
The RX 350 provides a thoughtful layout of controls and instruments, while few would dare to criticise its quality.
This Lexus retains the comfortable and supportive seats of its forebears, while improving on its previously poor showing in security.
It falls back to the field on driving characteristics. Despite the plushest of rides and superb sound elimination, its light steering and initial body roll during cornering are still weaknesses.
And although the RX has permanent all-wheel drive, its 4WD ability remains below average.
