Rehabilitation Process
Visit your doctor
Following injury or illness, visit your doctor who, if appropriate, may refer you to an occupational therapist for a pre-driving assessment.
Pre-driving assessment
Your occupational therapist will arrange and conduct your pre-driving assessment.
On-road driving assessment
Your on-road driving assessment will be conducted with your occupational therapist and an RACQ qualified driver coach in an appropriate dual-controlled vehicle. You will also need to ensure that a medical certificate or clearance for this activity is obtained from your doctor prior to this assessment.
Occupational Therapist’s report
Following your driving assessment, a recommendation and report on your current driving capabilities will be forwarded to both you and your doctor by the occupational therapist. Depending on the report you may be required to undertake a series of driving lessons specifically tailored to address your individual needs. You may also need to ensure that a medical certificate or clearance for this activity is obtained from your doctor prior to the lessons.
Medical clearance
This must be obtained from your doctor prior to resuming driving.
Endorsement of driver’s licence
Once cleared by your doctor to resume driving, take your medical certificate and driver’s licence to Queensland Transport for processing.
