Older Pedestrians

In Queensland, older people account for a significant proportion of the pedestrian road toll each year, making them a high-risk age group for pedestrian crashes.

As you get older, your reflexes will become slower and you are generally not as fast or agile as you once were.

Your eyesight and hearing also may not be as sharp as they once were, affecting your ability to judge traffic distance and speed.

These changes with age can impact on your ability to be a safe driver or pedestrian. To help reduce the risks, it is important that as you age, you have regular health and vision checks to help keep you at your best, whether you are walking or driving.

Always wear bright, clearly visible clothing when walking – day or night.
