Roadwork Sites

You must observe and obey roadwork signs when approaching and driving through roadwork sites.

Roadwork signs are official traffic signs and if you disobey them you could:

  • Face a fine and licence demerit points
  • Be liable for any damage to roadwork equipment and materials
  • Be sued for damage or injury incurred
  • Have a claim on your insurance adversely affected

Roadwork signs are also warnings to take extra care, even if there are no roadworkers on site.

By observing signs and obeying any speed restrictions, you will ensure:

  • The safety of the roadworkers
  • You do not lose control of the vehicle due to the rough road surface
  • You avoid any unnecessary damage to your vehicle by loose bitumen, stones or gravel.
