- It is important that you choose the type of inspection that suits you best. Please refer to the inspection features above for this purpose. RACQ does not accept responsibility for you choosing an unsuitable type of inspection. Please call us for advice on the inspection most suitable for you. These terms and conditions are detailed below:
- Vehicle inspection prices depend on the type of vehicle inspection you select as being appropriate for you. The RACQ's vehicle inspections staff can give you a fixed price when you book.
- Mobile Inspections only available in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns. Vehicles must be registered or at a dealer where a trade plate is available. Not suitable for all vehicles, such as high series prestige vehicles.
- Mechanical and Body components are not removed during inspection with the exception of wheels and brake drums. While every care and precaution is taken to ensure the accuracy of the report, some faults may not be evident at the time of testing or can be spasmodic in nature.
- The operations of in-car entertainment units and car alarms are not checked.
- Checks of the air conditioning system are confined to its basic operation and external mechanical condition. Full performance tests (including temperature checks) of either normal or climate control systems are not carried out.
- Some vehicles are fitted with airbag safety systems. All active components are generally enclosed and we are unable to report on the integrity or operational capability of the system.
New Vehicle Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Condition apply at the time the inspection is booked. If you re-book the inspection this will mean that the applicable Terms and Conditions will be those applicable at the time you re-book. The Terms and Conditions may be found at www.racq.com.au
. You should make sure you review the current Terms and Conditions as it is important you under¬stand the scope of the inspections we undertake.
A hard copy of the current Terms and Conditions can be provided to you on request.
RACQ will undertake the type of inspection nominated by you at the time of booking and provide to you at the end of the inspection a report on the inspection (Vehicle Inspection Report). The features of the vehicle inspection are identified on our website. The limitations on what we inspect are described in these Terms and Conditions. It is important you understand these limitations.
By its nature an inspection can only consider the vehicle as at the time of inspection. Defects may arise after the time of the inspection, which defects were not identifiable at the time of inspection.
Further, but without limiting our obligation to provide services to you in accordance with the requirements of any consumer guarantees which apply under the Australian Consumer Law, an inspection, of its nature, will not necessarily identify all defects with a vehicle. Our inspectors use generally accepted methods of fault detection in carrying out inspections, but these methods will not necessarily identify all defects.
The Vehicle Inspection Report may only be read and used by you. You may not provide it to any other person unless we agree in advance and in writing. To the extent the law permits, our only liability in respect of the contents of the Vehicle Inspection Report is to you.
Subject to any restrictions imposed by law, we reserve the right to disclose information to a relevant third party on any potential safety issues regarding the vehicle which are identified by this inspection.
Where the inspection has been requested to assist you in making a decision to purchase a vehicle, you should appreciate that the Vehicle Inspec¬tion Report is not a recommendation to purchase, or not purchase, the vehicle. That decision is your own to make having regard to such matters as you consider relevant.
If you cancel the inspection within 24 hours of the pre-arranged time then a cancellation fee of $20 will be payable by you.
Your Vehicle Inspection Report can only relate to the condition of the vehicle at the time of the inspection.
Some vehicles may only be inspected in our workshop due to vehicle difficulty, inspection location difficulty and safety requirements.
There are some vehicles that either we cannot inspect or only a limited inspection can be carried out. This might be because of limited access, level of complexity or specialised tools and equipment required. We will attempt to advise where this might occur prior to conducting a vehicle inspection and this will be recorded in the Vehicle Inspection Report.
Our vehicle inspection is based on the external examination of vehicle components. Due to the time and cost involved, it is not feasible for us to dismantle component assemblies to measure internal parts. These are evaluated by such factors as noise, operation and performance on the road test. If you wish to have an inspection of internal parts undertaken you will need to contact a different service provider and arrange for them to undertake that inspection. We do not provide this service.
Our inspectors will carry out a visual and operating inspection, and check the general state of the vehicle at the time of the inspection.
Road tests may be completed within speed limits permissible within the immediate test area
Some faults do not become evident unless higher speeds are tested or achieved (e.g. wheel bearings).
Our vehicle inspection will not tell you everything you need to know about the vehicle.
The Vehicle Inspection Report will not tell you about hidden and concealed defects, intermittent problems not apparent at time of inspection, prob¬lems which cannot be identified on a visual inspection or unless parts of the vehicle are dismantled, or which become manifest after inspection.
We do not remove fixed items such as Baby seats and Seat covers during the inspection.
The inspection may not test the engine through the full operating temperature range of the engine therefore, some issues which are only evident when cold may not be detectable when the engine is presented hot.
Any documents with the vehicle, such as the vehicle service records, vehicle manual, damage reports and repair records, are not inspected. We do not prepare those documents or verify their accuracy and so will not be making any assessment as to whether their contents are accurate.
Vehicles with a transmission not designed for full time 4WD are not driven in 4WD to avoid risking damage to the vehicle drive train.
4. The Vehicle Inspection Report
All items in the inspection checklist are evaluated along with those requested by you and agreed by us at the time of the booking.
Only defects detectable at the time of the inspection are reported.
We will provide our professional opinion of the overall condition of the vehicle for your guidance. You should appreciate a professional opinion is a matter of judgement, and our professional opinion will assist you in making informed decisions.
5. Risk to Purchaser
Due to the limitations on the detection and/or analysis of some faults, (those that are internal, concealed or hidden, and/or are not audible within the limitations of our road test) to purchase a vehicle without a warranty from the seller may expose the purchaser to significant risks.
Under the Australian Consumer Law “consumer guarantees” apply to the vehicle inspection services RACQ provides where those services are provided to consumers (as defined in the Australian Consumer Law). The guarantees include that services will be rendered with due care and skill.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions varies RACQ’s liability to you in respect of any consumer guarantees which apply between you and RACQ. The remedies you have for any breach of these guarantees are set out in the Australian Consumer Law.
Apart from our liability under the Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees, to the extent the law permits we exclude all liability to you of any nature in connection with the vehicle inspections we undertake or for anything which happens to the vehicle while it is in our possession, custody or control. This exclusion extends to actions in tort (including negligence), for breach of contract, for breach of bailment conditions or on any other basis whatsoever (other than under the Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees). The circumstances in which our liability is excluded include without limitation where the vehicle is involved in an accident during a test drive. You should ensure that the vehicle is appropriately insured.
Subject to our liability under the Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees, to the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any delay in performing, or any failure to carry out, a vehicle inspection to the extent that such a delay or failure results from events or circumstances outside our reasonable control. Nothing in this clause 6.4 limits the scope of clause 6.3.
Payment may be made at the time of booking or at the time of inspection. Payment may be made by card, cheque or cash in our of our branches.
A copy of the completed inspection report will be provided to you after the inspection.
The Terms and Conditions will be varied by RACQ from time to time.
The report we produce is only for the use of the person to whom it is addressed and may not be relied upon by any other person.
