Whitsunday drivers enjoy cheapest fuel in Qld
The Whitsundays has taken the crown as the cheapest place to fill up the tank in Queensland, according the State’s peak motoring’s monthly fuel report.
The region recorded an average price for regular unleaded petrol of 130.9 cents per litre (cpl) in August, followed closely by Goondiwindi which was the second cheapest at 131.8cpl.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said the Whitsunday region was 9cpl cheaper than nearby Mackay and almost 10cpl cheaper than Bowen.
“Whitsunday motorists certainly have reason to celebrate with bowser prices not only lower than other centres, but indicative retail margins charged by fuel companies in the region the lowest in the State at negative 4.7cpl,” Ms Smith said.
“Fuel prices in regional Queensland are at the mercy of many global factors and last month we saw a relatively low and stable oil price. However, we don’t know what will happen in the future so prices could increase at any time. Drivers should make the most of the cheap fuel and fill the tank.”
Ms Smith said regardless of the town or city they lived in, drivers needed to shop around for the best deal.
“Our message to drivers is simple – only fill up at the servo selling for the lowest price. Make sure you spend 30 seconds before you jump in the car on one of the apps or websites, like RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder, to find out the cheapest price in your area,” she said.
The current average price for ULP in the Whitsundays was 130.5cpl.
