Council issues parking fines during wild weather

As the south east was hit with heavy rain and localised flooding last Thursday, Brisbane City Council parking officers continued to issue fines to motorists.

The Brisbane Times has reported Fortitude Valley worker Sophia Jane has taken to Facebook to ask why council continued to give out parking fines after major safety warnings were issued for people to return home.

“To say I am appalled, shocked and absolutely astounded is an understatement,” Ms Jane said.

“This sums up Brisbane City Council and the little care they have for their people and the community in a state of disaster.”

Ms Jane said she was only away from her car for 40 minutes while she tried to seek cover from the heavy rainfall.

The Brisbane City Council said residents who are concerned they have been unfairly fined at any time can make use of council’s three-stage appeals process.
