Rockhampton floods: Fitzroy River to peak Thursday
As the Fitzroy River continues to rise ahead of its expected peak on Thursday, homes in Rockhampton have begun to be inundated.
The Morning Bulletin has reported homes and businesses on the lower end of Quay Street have begun to flood.
As of 6:30 this morning (Tuesday 4 April), the river had reached 7.6 metres.
The Bureau of Meteorology has revised its forecast for Rockhampton, with the Fitzroy River set to peak at nine metres on Thursday – just under the 2011 flood level.
Rockhampton Regional Council has warned residents to be prepared for the worst, with regular updates to be provided over coming days.
Mayor Margaret Strelow told the Courier Mail while the river peak had been revised down, the area still faced a serious flood that would damage the local economy.
Multiple roads were expected to close across Rockhampton in coming days.
