Avoid traffic delays in Brisbane this weekend: RACQ
The State’s peak motoring body has warned drivers to be wary of road closures near Brisbane CBD on Saturday, as tens of thousands of people were set to bring one of the city’s biggest street parties to life.
Every year, the Teneriffe Festival supercharged streets and laneways for eleven hours, celebrating the inner-city suburb’s diverse mix of culture and history through food and entertainment.
RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said with around 50,000 people descending on Teneriffe and Newstead throughout Saturday, anyone heading to the event should opt for public transport.
“Community events like this don’t work if everyone decides to jump in the car – there’s simply not enough parking,” Ms Ross said.
“Leave your vehicle at home, and make use of the many public transport options available, including the bus, CityCat or ferry.”
Not only would several roads be closed for Saturday’s event, authorities also predicted lengthy delays for motorists in Hamilton, due to major road upgrade works.
“Kingsford Smith Drive is down to one lane in both directions between Cooksley Street and Nudgee Road across the weekend,” Ms Ross said.
“If you have no other choice but to drive to the city, plan your journey by staying up to date with RACQ Road Conditions.”
