RACQ has warned motorists to avoid the Brisbane CBD this morning, as protesters blocked the intersection at Edward Street at Queen Street.

The Courier Mail reported the major intersection was blocked by a rental truck and Extinction Rebellion protesters were refusing to come down from the roof of the vehicle.

Club spokesperson Clare Hunter said the stunt had caused gridlock throughout the CBD and on the Pacific Motorway inbound as commuters made their way to work.

“Emergency services are now on scene trying to remove the protest and traffic is being diverted via Edward Street,” Ms Hunter said.

“The protest started at 7am, so lengthy delays have been building and it’s still causing a nightmare for anyone trying to get into the city this morning.

“Motorists should delay travel if they can and keep up to date with the latest information at RACQ Road Conditions.”
