Please drive safely: RACQ

RACQ is pleading with drivers to be safe after a horror weekend on Queensland roads saw eight people killed in crashes in just 72 hours.

The Courier Mailreported one person died in a motorcycle crash Monday morning at Carole Park and two men died in a three-vehicle crash at Bethania Sunday afternoon.

Four lives were also lost in Townsville Sunday morning when a car flipped after clipping a roundabout and an infant died in a single-vehicle crash near Mackay on Saturday afternoon.

RACQ Head of Technical and Safety Policy Steve Spalding said it brought the State’s death toll to 100 so far this year, compared to 91 at the same time last year.

“It’s incredibly sad to hear 100 people have lost their lives on our roads already this year,” Mr Spalding said.

“Every life lost is someone’s family member or friend, it’s not just a number. It creates a ripple effect within the community.

“We’re pleading with drivers to drive at safe speeds and be careful on the roads to protect your safety and that of other road users.

“Please also never take any risks when you’re behind the wheel, it just isn’t worth it.”
