New border pass available online
RACQ has informed motorists they could now apply for the new Queensland Border Declaration Pass online ahead of the borders opening from midday Friday 10 July.
The Courier Mail reported Queensland Police had warned motorists crossing the border in the coming days to anticipate extensive delays at major checkpoints and queues of up to 20 kilometres long.
Club spokesperson Renee Smith said it was paramount motorists had their Border Declaration Pass filled out before entering Queensland.
“We know there is going to be a lot of traffic at the border this afternoon so please make sure your pass is filled out to help reduce delays for everyone,” Ms Smith said.
“It’s fantastic Queensland is open for business to all states and territories except for Victoria, but when it comes to hitting the road, drivers will have to be patient.
“It’s going to take a while for authorities and motorists to adjust to this new process, which is in place to keep us all safe.
“If you’re entering Queensland today or over the weekend, please allow extra travel time and have a break somewhere before the traffic gets bad.”
Ms Smith reminded motorists Queensland Border Declaration Passes had to be renewed every seven days.
“Everyone in the vehicle entering Queensland has to fill out a Border Declaration Pass, including children,” she said.
“Anyone who has entered Victoria in the last 14 days is not allowed to enter Queensland unless they are a resident returning home.”
