Brisbane CBD road closures over Easter
Several roads in the Brisbane CBD will be closed over the Easter long weekend to allow for Queen’s Wharf Project construction activities while traffic volumes are low.
From 7pm Thursday 13 April until 4am Tuesday 18 April, Margaret Street between William and George Streets, including the Margaret Street Riverside Expressway exits, will be temporarily closed for the demolition of 80 George Street and the Margaret St overpass.
The road closures will enable one of three former government non-heritage buildings at 80 George Street to be demolished so further construction can begin on the resort development.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said the timing of this work would cause minimal disruption for motorists with Easter generally a quiet time in the CBD.
“It’s great Queen’s Wharf Brisbane has capitalised on a quiet weekend on the roads to undertake these construction activities because it will reduce the traffic impact with less motorists in the city,” Ms Smith said.
“If drivers are heading into the CBD, they’ll need to revise their journey plan in case these road closures impact their route. Motorists using the Riverside Expressway to travel into the CBD will also need to remember to use the Turbot or Elizabeth Street off ramps during this period.”
