Park ‘n’ Rides need to be improved ahead of Comm Games
The State’s peak motoring body has supported calls for urgent upgrades to Park ‘n’ Ride services throughout the Gold Coast ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
RACQ said Park ‘n’ Ride carparks were at capacity and needed to be boosted to help cater to the thousands of spectators expected to travel to the sporting event by train.
Gold Coast Bulletin has reported commuters were forced to leave their cars in paddocks outside Ormeau Train Station due to packed carparks.
RACQ Principal Traffic and Safety Engineer Gregory Miszkowycz said Park ‘n’ Ride upgrades would not only help those who had planned to attend the Commonwealth Games.
“These improvements will have ongoing benefits for everyday commuters who currently can’t find spots to park when taking the train,” Mr Miszkowycz said.
“If we want more people using public transport now and in the future, we need to expand Park ‘n’ Ride facilities as soon as possible.”
