Fatal crash closes the Bruce Highway
RACQ has urged motorists to avoid the Bruce Highway north of Townsville after a fatal crash closed the road in both directions early Wednesday morning.
The Courier Mail reported the truck and car crash occurred at Bluewater at 4.30am.
Head of Technical and Safety Policy Steve Spalding encouraged drivers to seek an alternative route or expect delays.
“If drivers can avoid the area, we’d ask them to do so as emergency services continue their investigations,” Mr Spalding said.
“We’re only 15 days into 2020 and this is the fifth life lost on Queensland roads which is just tragic.”
Mr Spalding urged drivers to remember the Fatal Five, particularly if they travelled long distances.
“It doesn’t matter how often or how far you drive, you need to make sure you’re not speeding, always wearing your seat belt, not drink driving or becoming distracted,” he said.
“Fatigue can creep up on you which is why we encourage motorists to take a break every two hours.
“The only cure is sleep, caffeine will simply mask the symptoms.”
