Charge up on Brisbane buses
Brisbane City Council has announced all new buses will be fitted with free USB charging stations, after a recent pilot program proved popular with commuters.
Every new bus will have 16 charging ports installed, separated into pairs and will sit between windows to allow passengers to plug in their cable from their seat.
The move was announced in yesterday’s Brisbane City Council Budget, under a $650 million allocation for public and active transport projects.
Other wins for public transport users in the 2017-18 Council Budget included:
- 60 new air-conditioned and accessible buses, including 10 new 18 metre buses
- Continuing the $100 million program for bikeway infrastructure over four years to create connections between Kangaroo Point to Indooroopilly and Toowong to Woolloongabba
- Ongoing upgrades of Council’s bus stops
- Continuing refurbishment and full overhaul of two Generation 1 CityCats, as well as designing and procuring a new CityCat.
