Storms, wet weekend for the south east

With storms predicted to continue over the weekend, the State’s peak motoring body has urged drivers in the south east to stay tuned to weather forecasts and to stay off the roads if necessary.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported Weatherzone predicted 50mm of rain for the Gold Coast on Saturday, with showers and storms also forecast across the south east on Sunday.

RACQ spokesperson Clare Hunter said if heavy rain and hail hit the region, drivers should avoid the roads.

“The south east is still recovering from yesterday’s storms, and we’re expecting those kinds of systems] to continue over the weekend – that could make for slippery conditions for drivers,” Ms Hunter said.

“There’s a risk of flash flooding and with 50mm of rain expected on Saturday, it’ll top up what we’ve already seen on the Coast.

“Before drivers hit the road over the weekend, we’re urging them to tune into the latest weather warnings so they can avoid getting caught out in a dangerous situation.”

Motorists could also visit RACQ’s Road Conditions website for the latest traffic information.
