Ditch the car and give cycling a go

RACQ has encouraged drivers to ditch the car and pedal in to the office on Wednesday for Ride2Work day.

The initiative, led by Bicycle Network, aimed to help reduce congestion while also encouraging Australians to improve their health through exercise.

RACQ spokesperson Lauren Ritchie urged motorists who may have never commuted by bike to give it a go.

“Cycling might not only save you time in peak hour, but money too, even if you just commit to riding your bike once a week,” Ms Ritchie said.

“We know transport costs take up a huge part of the household budget, it’s the second biggest cost after housing and food.

“It’ll also reduce the number of vehicles on the road, which will help lower emissions as well as bust congestion.”

Bikeway maps, to assist riders in planning their journeys, could be viewed on Department of Transport and Main Roads’ website.
