Courier Mail reported the crash happened just before 12.30pm and resulted in a fuel fire which was visible from kilometres away.

RACQ spokesperson Clare Hunter said emergency services have closed the Bribie Island Bridge to traffic in both directions while they worked at the scene.

“The bridge remains closed on both sides and local traffic has begun to bank up,” Ms Hunter said.

“Both cars and buses on and off Bribie Island will be impacted until emergency services are able to clear the crash site.

“Currently long delays are expected so avoid the area if you can, and if you do need to get on or off the island you’ll have to pack your patience until the lanes are opened.

“Check RACQ Road Conditions before you set off to keep updated.”
