RACQ welcomes Sunshine Coast road upgrades
The State’s peak motoring body has welcomed an announcement upgrades to major roads on the Sunshine Coast would start late-January.
Sunshine Coast Daily reported $4.8 million would go to overhauling Mooloolaba Road, between Deloraine Drive and Syd Lingard Drive.
RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael said the 18,500 motorists which used the road each day would welcome the improvements which included resealing and line marking.
“The surface improvements on this stretch of road will improve grip, safety and ride quality. This is particularly important due to the hilly and winding nature of the road,” Dr Michael said.
“A further $1.08 million will deliver safety improvements for the Nicklin Way and Beerburrum Street intersection at Aroona.
“The upgrade to Nicklin Way will further separate and protect vulnerable road users through dedicated on-road bike lanes and the installation of signalised pedestrian crossings.
“These upgrades will make it safer and easier for cyclists and pedestrians to move through this busy intersection.”
Dr Michael urged road users to be patient while the works were carried out.
“Both of these works are expected to be completed in the coming months towards mid-2020, so drivers need to expect some delays to their commute but it’s short term pain for long term gain.”
