Road closures in place for major events in Brisbane

The State’s peak motoring body has encouraged Brisbane drivers to plan their journeys as several major events were set to impact traffic across the River City over the weekend.

RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said roads in and around South Brisbane would be busy from Saturday as more than 60,000 people were expected to attend the Paniyiri Greek Festival.

“Parts of Edmonstone Street and Russell Street will be closed from early in the morning, and signage and traffic controllers will deployed to help direct and detour motorists through the area,” Ms Smith said.

“Consider leaving the car at home and jumping onboard the free public transport options available through a pre-purchased event ticket.”

Ms Smith said several major roads would also be closed on Sunday when thousands of cyclists put their pedals to the metal for Bicycle Queensland’s Great Brisbane Bike Ride.

“A number of roads including the Inner City Bypass and Kingsford Smith Drive will be shut Sunday morning to make way for this event and to keep participants safe. They’ll reopen to motorists from about 11am,” she said.

“It’s really important everyone packs their patience and plans ahead by checking RACQ’s Road Conditions website, wherever they’re heading this weekend.”
