Chopper continues search for missing fisherman
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Service has joined a Queensland Police Service (QPS) search for a man believed to have fallen overboard from a fishing trawler.
The helicopter was tasked by QPS just after 4:15am Monday, with the crew searching an area 80 kilometres off the Sunshine Coast.
When the man fell overboard, the trawler turned around to search for the man and spotted him, however he reportedly disappeared again with the crew unable to bring him on board.
After pausing the search at last light on Monday evening, the helicopter has resumed searching in a grid pattern at first light Tuesday. There has been no sign of the man at this stage.
It was a busy weekend for the RACQ rescue helicopter network with RACQ LifeFlight Rescue also responding to a 4WD rollover south east of Bundaberg, with one woman flown to hospital, and RACQ CQ Rescue also responding to a motorbike rider who needed to be flown more than 1200km to Townsville hospital with a serious head injury.
