New interchange to bust Sunshine Coast congestion
RACQ has welcomed news Australia’s first Diamond Interchange at Caloundra Road was completed overnight, just in time for holidays on the Sunshine Coast.
Club spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said traffic was flowing on all connections between Steve Irwin Way, Caloundra Road and the Bruce Highway for the first time since construction began on the Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway Project in 2017.
“This has traditionally been a very busy and congested interchange area, so it’s great motorists can benefit from these changes,” Ms Ritchie said.
“We hope the newly completed project will go a long way to improving safety and travel time for locals and tourists in peak periods.
“It really couldn’t have been completed at a better time, with Christmas holidays in full swing on the Sunshine Coast.
“Cyclists and pedestrians will also benefit from new active transport paths included as part of the whole Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway project.”
Ms Ritchie said work would continue on the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway Project in the new year.
“Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2021, so if you’re visiting the area, please obey all signs and speed limits.”
