M1 business cases progressed
RACQ has welcomed news vital M1 upgrades are being moved forward by the State’s infrastructure authority.
As reported in the Courier Mail, Building Queensland (BQ) was expected to today announce it would develop preliminary business cases for an M1 upgrade between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill and between Varsity Lakes and Tugun.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said it was important the congested road was fixed as soon as possible.
“We’ve lobbied hard to secure funding for these upgrades so it’s great to see the business cases progressing,” Ms Smith said.
“Motorists are tired of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M1.”
Ms Smith said RACQ also agreed with BQ’s recommendation the Federal and State governments fund the Beerburrum to Nambour rail duplication.
“It’s disappointing there’s been no funding commitment for the Beerburrum to Nambour rail upgrade,” she said.
“With the Bruce Highway at capacity, this is a key project we’ll continue to push for. It’s the only road/rail project classified as ‘ready for government investment consideration’ from earlier BQ Pipeline Reports still not to have had any funding committed to it.”
