Have a smooth start to Christmas

RACQ has urged drivers to take necessary precautions to ensure their cars were set for a smooth trip ahead of Christmas.

The Club’s Head of Technical and Safety Policy Steve Spalding said motorists who took the time to check their car could avoid being stuck on the side of the road.

“Before setting out on a road trip, we say prevention is better than a cure,” Mr Spalding said.

“Always check the basics such as tyre pressures, oil and fluids, and that all lights are working.

“Make sure your car’s servicing is up to date and avoid leaving it to the last minute, as workshops are usually busy at this time of year.”

Mr Spalding said drivers should also take care to ensure their vehicle was packed safely.

“All items need to be securely stowed, keep the passenger area clear of luggage for both safety and comfort and if you’re towing a caravan make sure it’s not overloaded,” he said.

“It’s also important to check your Roadside Assistance coverage is up to date, as no matter how organised you are, a breakdown can happen anytime, anywhere.”
