Brisbane CBD road closures from this weekend: RACQ

The State’s peak motoring body has warned motorists key Brisbane CBD roads would be closed over the weekend as work continued with the Queen’s Wharf development.

For up to seven weekends between 21 July and 11 September, excluding the ‘Bridge to Brisbane’ weekend, the Margaret Street off-ramps and section of Margaret Street up to George Street would be closed from 8pm Friday until 4am Monday.

Destination Brisbane Consortium Project Director Simon Crooks thanked the community for its support and patience while work was carried out.

“Over the last six months, work has been occurring both within our site boundary and in the surrounding streets, and during that time, we have been working closely with our near neighbours and the community to ensure they were well informed ahead of work activities occurring,” Mr Crooks said.

The Margaret Street overpass will be demolished.

RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie said motorists should be aware of the closures and to plan their journey in advance.

“While building work is carried out there will be disruption and people wanting to use the Margaret Street off-ramps must revise their journey,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Motorists should be aware this is not a stand-alone weekend closure and is in fact one of many over the coming weeks so planning in advance is highly recommended.

“Anyone intending on driving into the city on the weekends during construction works should check the RACQ road conditions website before travelling.”
