Carrara roundabout upgrade good for motorists: RACQ

The State’s peak motoring body has praised upgrade works to be carried out at a Gold Coast congestion hotspot.

The Gold Coast Bulletin has reported the $7 million improvement project to the Gooding Drive roundabout in Carrara would soon begin, with completion expected by the end of the year.

RACQ’s Renee Smith said the project would go a long way to reducing congestion and improving safety.

“The Gooding Drive roundabout has been a congestion hotspot for years, making regular appearances in our previous Red Spot congestion surveys,” Ms Smith said.

“These upgrades are part of the $160.3 million in funding dedicated to getting the Gold Coast network ready for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Improvements appear to be on track to be completed in time for the big event.”

Ms Smith reminded motorists to expect disruption while the work was carried out.

“It’s short term pain for long-term gain. We urge drivers to be patient, with lane closures and reduced speeds expected to cause increased congestion and potential frustration,” she said.
