Electric cars ready to charge into the future
The State’s peak motoring body has welcomed news more charging sites for electric cars would be rolled out across the country.
RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael said while this was a positive step forward, more infrastructure was still needed to make electric cars a viable alternative to petrol-powered vehicles.
“Electric vehicles are only going to become more popular as battery prices come down and more manufacturers produce them,” Dr Michael said.
“A network of rapid recharging stations is required to provide the capacity and capability for these vehicles to travel long distances and recharge faster.”
Dr Michael said RACQ would like to see State and Federal Governments further investigate incentives to simplify the process and encourage motorists to switch to electric cars.
“We’ve seen similar measures introduced in other countries which has really increased the uptake.”
