Fuel prices rise in regional Queensland
The State’s peak motoring body has revealed petrol prices across many regional Queensland towns and centres had risen over the past week, and urged drivers to shop around to get the best bang for buck.
RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said the average price of unleaded had increased by nearly nine cents per litre (cpl) in places like Townsville in the last seven days.
“Drivers in parts of central and north Queensland like Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton were also among those feeling the pinch from the increase,” Ms Ross said.
“We’ve seen the terminal gate price increase recently which has caused retail margins to drop significantly and unfortunately this has triggered servos to increase their prices.”
Ms Ross said the price rise was another reason motorists should ensure they always research where the cheaper sites were in their area.
“While global factors do play a big part when it comes to the price of fuel at the bowser, we all have a choice about where we buy from and it should always be with those servos offering the best deals.”
RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder app was available for download on Apple and Android devices.
