Baton Relay road closures to affect CQ and Wide Bay

Residents in parts of central Queensland and Wide Bay have been urged to plan their travel carefully, as rolling road closures surrounding the Queen’s Baton Relay would impact traffic from this weekend.

The baton would pass through Gladstone, Miriam Vale and Agnes Waters and Bundaberg on Saturday, and would move through Fraser Island, Hervey Bay and Maryborough on Sunday.

RACQ spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said motorists needed to check how their travel could be affected to avoid delays.

“The road closures are expected to impact motorists as well as public transport services in the region so we’re urging people in these areas to be patient and plan ahead to minimise any impacts,” Ms Ritchie said.

“We still encourage everyone to come along to enjoy the festivities – but to also do research before they jump in the car.”

Ms Ritchie said RACQ’s Traffic Response Units would be assisting with the Queen’s Baton Relay through Gympie and the Sunshine Coast from Monday to ensure a smooth journey towards the Gold Coast.
