Sinkhole opens up on major Coast road
Drivers have been warned to steer clear of a major thoroughfare through the Sunshine Coast after a sinkhole opened.
RACQ’s Road Conditions report identified the hazard on Nicklin Way at Caloundra late Tuesday morning, after motorists reported minor flooding and large cracks to the asphalt.
Police and council workers would assess the situation before determining whether the road would be partially closed for repairs.
RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie warned motorists to avoid driving over the hole.
“It’s hard to know whether this hole is simply a pothole or whether there are serious concerns about the integrity of the foundations of the road,” Ms Ritchie said.
“Traffic may be impacted so we ask you be patient while authorities attempt to resolve the problem.”
