Classic car lovers’ delight this Australia Day
One of Queensland’s largest historic car rallies is set to get underway this Australia Day, with hundreds of vehicles on display thanks to support from RACQ’s Local Sponsorships Fund.
The event, which would be held at Ormiston State School in Redland City would attract more than 500 historic cars, motorbikes, trucks and buses.
“Without the support of RACQ to help us cover the costs of running this event, the charities we raise money for, and the local community would miss out on so much,” Mr Mellish said.
“Our club began with the gathering of just 10 people on 16 February 1978. It’s continued to grow exponentially since then and we’re very proud to be celebrating our 30th birthday this year.
“This funding is such a lovely birthday surprise and a great way to recognise the club’s achievements over the past three decades.”
Mr Mellish said the rally would feature a brilliant display of heritage machines from the 1900s, steam engine cars and the latest sports cars.
“This really is one of the largest rallies of classic cars of its kind, and attracts not only the local community, but car-lovers from far and wide,” he said.
“The sponsorship makes a huge difference to the people of Redland City and more importantly also encourages our younger generations to carry on the motoring history, for others to enjoy in the future.”
RACQ introduced its Local Sponsorship Fund in October 2017 and proudly helps community organisations, clubs, events and associations fund local initiatives.
