Gold Coast’s crash hot spots revealed

The State’s peak motoring body has urged Gold Coast drivers to take extra care, after it revealed the region’s worst suburbs for insurance claims resulting from traffic crashes.

Gold Coast Bulletin reported RACQ’s insurance claims data from the last three years showed motorists were most likely to have a crash in Southport.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said just 10 suburbs made up nearly 3,000 claims on the Coast.

“Unfortunately, Southport has topped the list with more than 700 claims for vehicle collisions since 2017, followed by Robina and Helensvale,” Ms Ross said.

“Most crashes are caused by driver error, so it’s really important that drivers are taking care at all times.”

Ms Ross said there were some simple steps drivers could take to reduce the likelihood of a crash.

“Remember to just take your time, give way correctly, watch for traffic signals and signs and keep a safe following distance to reduce your chance of getting caught in a crash,” she said.

“If you do have a crash, make sure you remain calm and exchange all details with the other driver. Take plenty of photos and contact your insurer as soon as possible.”
