Travelling around the Gold Coast by road

Avoid making non-essential journeys by road if you can.

If your trip is essential:

  • Consider reducing your need to travel, such as by working from home.
  • Try using an alternative form of travel – walking and cycling shorter journeys, bus and tram services or consider car pooling.

If you do need to travel by road aim to avoid the busiest times and locations:

  • Southport to Broadbeach along the Gold Coast Highway and surrounding roads is expected to be significantly busier than usual in both directions throughout every day of the Games, particularly on Tuesday 10 April.
  • Routes between Broadbeach and Carrara and Robina and Southport are expected to be busier than usual in both directions throughout every day of the Games, particularly on Tuesday 10 April.
  • If you can only travel during the busiest periods or in the busiest areas then allow plenty of extra time for your journey and be prepared to queue.
