Think outside the parking square

As COVID-19 restrictions eased and many commuters returned to using their vehicles, RACQ has encouraged motorists to think outside the box when it came to finding cheaper parking in Brisbane’s CBD.

The Advertiser reported a rising number of Australians were earning extra cash from renting out spare parking spaces attached to CBD apartments and units.

Club spokesperson Lauren Ritchie said motorists could find short or long term parking in Brisbane by using sites like

“We know many motorists are opting to drive rather than use public transport at this time, so using apps for alternative parking is a great way to save money,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Brisbane has some of the most expensive off-street parking costs in the country, so anything that helps boost competition is a good thing.”

Ms Ritchie said while driving was a popular option during the pandemic, the Club was calling for political candidates to support the introduction of an integrated public transport authority to create more sustainable alternatives to getting behind the wheel.

“If we don’t return to public transport, we’ll see congestion levels rise and the road networks will struggle to cope- it’s just not sustainable,” she said.

“One management authority will lead to better connectivity and better solutions for commuters.”
