Coomera Connector must be fast tracked

RACQ has called for the acceleration of the Coomera Connector business case, after Infrastructure Australia (IA) released its priority list on Wednesday.

Gold Coast Bulletin reported the Brisbane Metro, the Pacific Motorway and the Bruce Highway were listed as high priority projects.

RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael said the Club welcomed the support for the Pacific Motorway, but the Coomera Connector was needed to ease the pressure.

“We know commuters between the Gold Coast and Brisbane spend up to three weeks a year stuck in traffic, we need to see the Coomera Connector included as a high priority project,” Dr Michael said.

“The Priority List identifies and prioritises a pipeline of infrastructure projects and initiatives, and while the Coomera Connector isn’t listed as a stand-alone project, the IA report signals that it is critical to easing congestion on the M1.

“Stage 1 design and business case for the Coomera Connector is scheduled for completion this year. It’s vitally important that the delivery of the business case isn’t delayed so we can get it on the priority project list next year.”

Dr Michael said it was crucial all levels of government worked together to future proof the state.

“We know congestion is only going to get worse, so we need to act now to improve public transport and unblock the bottle necks, to get everyone where they need to be quicker,” she said

“We need all levels of government to come together to resolve funding gaps and deliver these critical projects.”
