Truck thefts spark terrorism risk

Australian authorities are on alert for heavy vehicle thefts, following several recent terrorist attacks involving trucks around the globe.

Truck owners in Queensland have been urged to report thefts of heavy vehicles as a matter of priority.

“Queenslanders can rest assured that the QPS is continuously monitoring world events and has the capacity to quickly adapt to a changing security environment if necessary,” a QPS spokesperson said.

“While there is no specific known threat to Queensland, people are encouraged to go about their daily lives, however the community should not be complacent.”

The call from Queensland Police Service followed local area commands in Sydney reporting heavy vehicle thefts to the New South Wales Joint Counter Terrorism Team.

If anyone knows of any suspicious activity or sees anything concerning, they should call 000 in an emergency or Policelink on 13 1444 for non-urgent matters. The National Security Hotline can be reached on 1800 123 400.
