Beware unsealed roads over the long weekend: RACQ
The State’s peak motoring body has issued a warning to motorists driving on unsealed roads over the long weekend.
In regional areas, road conditions were often not up to the standard of city roads and this could cause problems if motorists didn’t drive to the conditions.
RACQ’s Principal Road Safety Advisor Joel Tucker said several factors on unsealed roads increased risks for motorists.
“Unsealed roads aren’t as forgiving as sealed roads because they’re often narrower and you have less grip,” Mr Tucker said.
“We urge all drivers to slow down and take extra care, especially when approaching corners or crests because stopping distances will be longer if something unexpected happens.
“We simply ask that more care is taken so every motorist has a safe long weekend.”
Top tips for driving safely on unsealed roads:
- Slow down
- Drive to the conditions
- Give yourself a bigger margin for error, including an increased following distance from the vehicle in front.
