The end of the Go Card?

The future of south east Queensland’s Go Card could be known within a few weeks with the results of the tender process for the ‘next generation’ of ticketing expected to be announced shortly.

Credit cards and contactless payments with mobile phones were among ideas raised since the tender process began two years ago.

Speaking to the ABC, TransLink‘s Matt Longland said the new system would be based on account information.

“We’ll have things like phones, watches, smart devices, tap and go … built into the new system,” Mr Longlands said.

“So you may be able to use a normal Go Card but also a number of other ways of connecting and paying for your trip.”

Ninety percent of public transport passengers used a Go Card, and Mr Longlands said TransLink would work to ensure a smooth transition for customers when the new system began.
