Elderly man airlifted after quad bike crash

A man, aged in his nineties, was rushed to hospital for treatment after the brakes on his parked quad bike failed, and the vehicle rolled down the hill and hit him.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the incident, north of Oakey, where the elderly man was injured.

The patient had parked the vehicle on high ground, before moving to lower ground to complete some work. The quad bike’s brakes then reportedly then disengaged, resulting in it colliding with the man.

He was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries, under the care of an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.
