Pack your patience on Kingsford Smith Drive: RACQ

RACQ has warned motorists to expect major traffic changes on Kingsford Smith Drive which would be in place throughout the weekend.

Club spokesperson Renee Smith said as part of works to widen the road from four to six lanes for the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade, lane closures would be in place at the Cooksley Street intersection from 7pm Friday 31 January to 5am Monday 3 February.

“During the works, Kingsford Smith Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction next to the work areas between Cooksley Street and Toorak Road,” Ms Smith said.

“Motorists will also be unable to access Kingsford Smith Drive from Cooksley Street during this time.

“The good news is during the Saturday peak between 10am and 3pm, two lanes will be open in each direction.

“Drivers should expect delays and plan an alternative route if possible.”

Ms Smith also reminded motorists to travel safely through the construction area.

“There’ll be detour signage and traffic control in place to help guide drivers safely around the site,” she said.

“Please remember to stick to the reduced speed limits to protect road workers as well as other motorists and pedestrians.”
