Brisbane traffic changes to be aware of this New Year’s Eve

As Brisbane residents prepared to toast a new year, the State’s peak motoring body has encouraged drivers to make themselves aware of road closures which would be in place across the city.

Brisbane City Council (BCC) reported traffic changes would take effect from Sunday through to Tuesday, as New Year’s Eve celebrations were held in several major inner-city areas.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said roads in South Brisbane, Kangaroo Point, Brisbane City and New Farm would be impacted.

“We’re urging residents to plan ahead if they’re heading out on the town to ring in the new year,” Ms Ross said.

“If you’re thinking about getting in the car, or better-yet, a taxi or ride-share, road closures might affect your journey.

“Make sure you stay across Brisbane City Council’s Facebook page for the full list of closures, and our Road Conditions website for info on other traffic changes which might affect you.”

Ms Ross reminded drivers there would be plenty of party-goers out enjoying the celebrations on foot.

“If you are driving around tonight, keep a close eye out for pedestrians who may be enjoying the fun and not concentrating on behaving safely near the road,” she said.

To help with traffic movements, BCC would also waive tolls on the Go Between Bridge between 6pm Monday and 2am Tuesday.
