10 tips to pick the best holiday package
It sounds too good to be true, but when it comes to holiday packages you could score a bargain.
Yes, that five-star resort week in Fiji with flights, breakfast and spa treatments, the luxury beachfront villa stay in Bali or hideaway in Hawaii could be yours for a rock-bottom price. Smart travellers know that all luxe for less deals are not equal, and it pays to look closely at the details.
Here is what you need to know
- How do they do it?
Flights, five-star accommodation, breakfast and value extras for under a $1000 per person – is this possible? Often it is a numbers game where a company uses its bargaining power to drive a great deal for its customers for a specific period. It is important, however, to read the fine print first or you might end up with a holiday that doesn’t work for you.
- Do I need to jump on this offer?
The best travel deals usually have a short duration so jump on or lose the opportunity. These are limited time and number holidays. The best deals offer a buy now, book later option so you can secure your deal without committing to dates straight away. When you book with a company you can trust, you known you’ll be getting what you are promised.
- Check the date exclusions
Often deals will be for travel periods several months in the future, plus it is unusual to get a top deal during peak periods, like Christmas and school holidays.
- Which airline?
Your holiday starts at the airport, so it pays to know you are flying with a reputable airline on a direct flight. Ask about the flight duration and fees for flight changes and upgrades.
- No flights included
Do check the price of flights before you decide on an accommodation only package.
- Are transfers included?
There’s nothing like getting off that long flight and seeing your name on a transfer board and a driver who will take you straight to your bed. Transfers can be an expensive add on for a trip and hard to arrange so inclusion is a definite bonus.
- Is there a guide?
While it is fun to wander your destination at leisure, a guide will point out so many sights that you otherwise would miss and places for cheap local eats. Is the trip fully escorted or is there are guide on most of the days?
- Would you like a drink with that?
Often hidden in the small print, food and drink inclusions and restrictions can make a huge difference to the cost of your trip. Especially on a cruise, it pays to know what to expect.
- What is the refund policy?
Can you get your money back if circumstances change?
- Can’t make the dates?
