Brisbane's 4x4 Outdoors Show can't go on

National 4x4, fishing and boating expo cancelled for this year.

The coronavirus has forced the cancellation of Queensland’s biggest and most comprehensive outdoor lifestyle show, with organisers citing uncertainty over the months ahead as the key reason for the decision to reschedule to next year.

The National 4x4 Outdoors Show, Fishing & Boating Expo is claimed to be the state’s biggest and most comprehensive outdoor lifestyle show, attracting more than 30,000 visitors annually.

The 28th annual staging of event was originally to be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds from 27-29 March, but was delayed due to the impacts of the coronavirus.

Organisers hoped to reschedule the expo and stage it later this year, but have decided to move both the Brisbane and Melbourne events to new dates in 2021.

“In our best efforts to safely bring the 4x4 and outdoors community together this year, we explored a range of options,” organisers, Exhibitions and Trade Fairs Pty Ltd, said in a statement.

“One of these was to move the shows to later in the year. After monitoring the ever-evolving situation, there are many uncertainties still in place that impact our ability to deliver the experience that you have come to expect and deserve.”

This year’s Brisbane show was expected to feature some 200 exhibitors.

A spokesperson said exhibitors could usually expect several hundred thousand dollars worth of product sales across the three days each year.

The event showcases everything from 4x4 accessories, camper trailers, the latest fishing tech, camping gear, boats, kayaks and everything in between.

The rescheduled Brisbane event will be held on 19-21 March next year and the Melbourne date set for 20-22 August.

“While we are disappointed that we are unable to come together this year, our priority when planning these shows is to create a world-class experience that celebrates the great outdoors, in a safe environment,” organisers said.

“We believe that focusing on the future is the best option, so we are busy working on new and exciting initiatives that ensure we come back even stronger.”
